Reading Maya Deren's Article, Amateur VS Professional, has made me wonder how professionals are still able to fully express their creative mind. As a student filmmaker, we still have to work and create with guidelines. However, these guidelines do not hold us back because we are able and encouraged to be as creative as possible. Unfortunately in today's world to be successful you must make sacrifices. Those who do not will still get there, but it will take longer. For example, there are independent filmmakers and independent production companies, but they are not as well known. They can create virtually anything but it is harder to promote their work unless they know all the right people.
Being a filmmaker is tough no matter if you are the amateur or the professional. What really matters is whether or not you love what you are doing because that will reflect in the products being made.
